What kind of Player are you?

Selfish Player or Team Player?

Are you willing to do whatever is needed for the team?

Are you a team player?

What does being a team player mean to you?

Kevin Durant of the Golden State Warriors to a 4-0 win in the championship. And he led the team to a 3-0 lead with 43 points in a comeback victory.

Durant has been a pivotal piece to the Warriors’ success over the past two seasons.

Stepping in last year and helping Golden State win a title and being a huge factor in the Finals.

Durant is an essential piece in the Warriors’ lineup, though he took a $10 million dollar pay cut ahead of this season in order to keep the championship-winning team together.

KD proves there really is no "I" in team, or $.

Durant is a quiet, yet explosive player... One of my favorite types of athletes... A player who lets his skill speak rather than himself.

Warriors coach, Steve Kerr, commented on KD’s pay cut:

"I told it reminded me a little bit of Tim Duncan and his time with the Spurs... Tim knew it was dramatically helping his own career and KD understands the same thing."

The unselfishness Durant has shown with willingly taking a thick pay cut speaks greatly of his character. It allowed the Warriors to keep a few players, like Iguodala and Livingston, and remain the championship-winning team they were last season.

Championship teams are made up of various players; respectful, selfless players, each contributing in their role.

Like many other championship athletes, such as Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and Dwayne Wade, KD puts his team first.

Even though he scored 43 points in the game to clinch a 3-0 series lead in the Finals against the Cavs, Durant understands that his team as a whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

How could he score 43 if he didn’t receive a pass from a teammate?

Basketball, like other sports is a team sport. Though there may be a superstar or a standout, it takes a team of people with a common goal and mission to be successful and win championships.

KD is competitive, he’s a gamer, and he knows he needs a team who feels the same.

With Curry, Green, Thompson, and others on the Warriors squad, he has that and did whatever he needed to do to keep the winning team intact.

Being a team player and understanding there is no "I" in team can be difficult for some athletes.

KD took a $10 million pay cut... What will you do for your team?

What's new?

The program is off to a good start. The girls have been working hard in the weight room to get stronger and in the gym to get quicker. It was evident that their work is paying off thus far as we competed in our first Fall league game on Saturday at Millikan HS. There were some positive things that came out of those games and looking forward to getting better. The JV and Varsity teams both had two games. Frosh/Soph will be starting theirs this week.

Sunday, the varsity team played two games at Hope International University. Here they are seeing solid competition as they embark on their new journey. They won the first by 2, and lost the second by two. Grind out games we like, as you know. The nail bitters. Just kidding. These games will be good for us, as they are teaching our team to finish.

F/S team: Head Coach, Justene Reyes. A bear alumni. Went on to Monmouth University and graduated. She came back to coach and to continue to share her love for this game.
She will be great for our little's. Fundamental is very important at this age. She is doing a fine job with them. She also is assisting on our varsity squad.

JV team: Head Coach, Greg Sii. He comes to us from Poly HS, where he coached the boys team there. In the off season he coaches girls club basketball in a well know national program. He is a great pick up and will add a toughness to our program. He is working hard developing young people and teaching the game. The girls one their first fall league game, while losing their second one in overtime. We are already seeing the difference he is making in the young peoples lives.

Varsity team: Head Coach, Palms. Head assistant, Franny Vaaulu. Also assisted by Tahja Matthews. The team is coming back young. There is youth and a few returners from last season. We know of the work ahead of us and we are embracing the process. Buy in, to any program, it important. The special thing is Giselle, Eryn, Alyssa, Sasha, J, Aubry and Jordan bring the experience of our CIF run last year. They bring a hunger and desire to get back there. Adding to our group, Halle, Kiana, Skylar, Diana, and Brianna will be exciting as they are passionate about this game, being successful and competing. Our coaching staff look forward to the future of this program and how things shape this season. Coach J and Greg has been a huge part of our in gym conditioning and helping create a dominate mindset.

Check back once in a while as we will post pictures, share our journey and have players blogg about their thoughts this year. Thank you for your continued support and cheering us on. Remember, #countnooneout

Go Bears!
